MERCHANT MARINE CEMETERY
Yes, amazingly there is a National Merchant
Marine facility near Ruidoso - 800 miles from the nearest navigable waterway!
The site is located a little north of the New Ruidoso Airport, about half way
between there and Ft. Stanton, which is another historic place.
SMOKEY THE BEAR MUSEUM
Located in the center of Capitan,
The museum is dedicated to that well known symbol of fire prevention who was
found as a tiny, singed cub, clinging to a tree during a forest fire in the

BILLY THE KID / LINCOLN
The whole town of Lincoln, NM is
essentially a museum, But there are a couple of good museums there- The Lincoln
County Courthouse from which Billy The Kid made his famous escape. At the
Visitors Center & Museum, you might be lucky to make the acquaintance of a
Mr. Drew Gomber, a "Western" historian of some repute, and a
great writer / storyteller.
WHITE OAKS - An old gold mining boom town, that became a ghost town, and is now enjoying a revival as an artists colony.
