I rarely make items of "solid" gold, but do occasionally plate Sterling Silver with gold when a "richer" color is desirable.  Plated items aren't just a thin gold "wash" that wears off in a week.  I plate items VERY heavily- usually about eight times as thick as the normal commercial gold plating thickness.  If you purchase an item from me that is plated, and the plating wears off (with normal use)  within one year of purchase I will re-plate it at no charge.
