I have received a couple of emails from Charter Cable (the
local Cable TV provider) this week indicating that they hope to start
providing high-speed cable connections in Ruidoso in a couple more
months. One email said June 1, the other said "sometime
in June". Since Charter has been promising High-speed Internet
"in a few months" for over two years now, I'm not going to hold my

In a related note, I spoke to the owner of the local Radio
Shack (102 Whitlock, 257-7865) a few days ago and he indicated that they will
be offering two-way Satellite High-Speed Internet service in Ruidoso
"soon". They have a working demo setup in the store now.
The new setup will allow you to use your existing computer,
unlike Radio Shack's previous offering of Satellite Internet which required
that you purchase a specially configured computer from them, in addition to
the satellite equipment and installation.
KRUI (1490 AM) Ruidoso News-Talk-Tourism Radio has a website. You can even click on a button and get a RealAudio recording of local news.
