The following photos were taken up on Sierra Blanca on October 14, 2002.
Back in the "old days" before the motorcycle rallies, Car shows and art shows for the tourist industry, the Aspencade was mostly just a day of fun for local folks- we had a parade and a picnic / barbecue up in the mountains where we enjoyed the aspens turning from green to gold, and not a lot of commercialism.
It was nice; I always marched in the parade with the Cub Scouts or Boy Scouts, or rode a horse with some of the other guys that went to summer camp out at Camp Geronimo, then went up on the mountain and "pigged out" with everyone else. Back then, I didn't appreciate the beauty of the area- I sure do now!
